Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen is a Kenyan citizen and a politician. Also, he is a lawyer by profession. He was born in Embobut Forest. By then, his parents were squatters. He is from a Kalenjin community in Elgeyo Marakwet.

Murkomen went to the University of Nairobi for his Tertiary education. He attained a Bachelor’s degree in Law. After his graduation, he got a scholarship at the University of Pretoria in Pretoria to further his Law studies. So, he attained a master’s degree from the university.

He is married to a gorgeous wife by the name of Gladys Wanjiru. He married her in 2009  through an African tradition wedding. Together, the couple has three sons and a daughter.

Politics and career

Murkomen started developing a passion for leadership during his school years. This is because he served as dining hall captain while in school. Moreover, when he was in his second year at the University, he became Chairman of the Kenyan Law Society.

In 2012, he became a member of the United Republican Party. In February 2013, he made a coalition with TNA to form the Jubilee Alliance. It is in March of the same year when he was elected Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet county. He was competing with former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott.

He was also a majority leader but lost the position in May 2022. However, he did not just let go easily. He boldly challenged the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s changes. This however worked well for his growth as a politician and since he got adequate support among his colleagues.

Besides politics, he has been a Lecturer at the Catholic University of East Africa, Moi University, and the University of Nairobi.

Moreover, he also partnered with his friends to establish a law firm known as Sing’oe, Murkomen & Sigei Advocates. This has helped in giving him valuable experience in public policy, trade, investment, and lobbying. Having gotten some experience from an international law firm and leading lobbying firm in Washington DC.

Appointment as CS

On September 27th, 2022, Murkomen was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Roads and transport by president William Ruto.
