Nikki Haley is an American who is a politician, diplomat, and also businesswoman. She was the first female to be elected as governor of South Carolina. Also, she became the second Indian American governor in the US.

Haley was born to immigrant parents who were from Punjab, in India. Her father’s name is  Ajit Singh Randhawa. He was a professor teaching at Voorhees College. Her mother is Raj Kaur Randhawa who worked for a local school district. She has one younger brother known as Mitti Randhawa.

Haley has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting which she got from Clemson University, in the year 1994. This University is a public research university located in Clemson, South Carolina, in the United States.

Moreover, she is married to a man known as Michael Haley. He is an officer South Carolina Army National Guard and served in Afghanistan. Together, they have been blessed with two children who are Rena and Nalin.

So, Nikki started her political career in the year 2004 when she got elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives, serving until 2010. Again in 2010, she got elected as the first female Governor of South Carolina. In this position, she served for two terms from the year 2011 to 2017.

During her time as the governor, she implemented policies aimed at improving the economy of the state, attract new businesses, and also create jobs. Again, she emphasized  on education reform, ethics reform, and combating domestic violence.

In 2017, President Donald Trump nominated her to serve as an Ambassador to the United Nations, a position she held until the end of 2018. While she was at the UN, she was known for taking a strong stand on issues concerning human rights, national security, and international relations.

After leaving this position at the UN, Haley went private sector when she became part of the board of directors for several corporations. Among them was Boeing and ExxonMobil. She also founded Stand for America, a policy advocacy group, and published a memoir titled “With All Due Respect” in 2019.
