Dr. Alfred Mutua

Dr. Alfred Mutua whose full name is Alfred Nganga Mutua was born in Masii in Machakos County. He is the firstborn in his family. He has a sister by the name of Ann. Alfred was brought up in a humble background. His father’s name is Habil Otieno Lut. He comes from  Kalenjuok village in Western Kenya.

He started school at Guadalupe Catholic Church Nursery and later joined Toi primary school in Kibera. After completing his primary education, he went to Dagoretti High school. There he became very active in acting. Therefore, he went to Jamhuri school and completed his A levels. Again, he became the president of the senior debating society. He also realized his skills in rugby, and football while in the institution.

 After completing, he went to Whitworth college in the USA for a bachelor’s degree in arts and Journalism. He later enrolled for Masters in Science program at Eastern Washington University in the USA. Upon qualifying, he went to the University of Western Sydney, Australia for a Doctorate in Communication and Media.

So, he was first married on 1st July 2001 to a lady by the name of Josephine Thitu Maundu. Together, the couple had three children. Later, the wife and children relocated to Australia. This was after a divorce between the two in 2015. Later, he got married to Lilian Nga’ng’a. The two had started their relationship way back in 2014 when he was still married to his first wife. By then Lilian was 29years old. On August 15th, 2021, Lilian and Alfred took to her social media account news about their divorce too. They had been married for five years.

Career

He was an assistant professor in the college of communication and media sciences at Zayed University in Dubai.

In 2002 during Hon. Kibaki’s government, Mutua was a government spokesman who was the first holder of the position. This position was created by the NARC coalition as a public communication department.

In 2012, he resigned from the government spokesman position ready to run for the Machakos Governors seat. Therefore, became the flag bearer of the Wiper Democratic Movement and won the election. Mutua served for two terms which are 10 years up to August 2022.

Appointment as CS

Mutua was appointed the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for foreign affairs and the diaspora by president Ruto in September 27th, 2022.

Cabinet Reshuffle

On 4th October 2023, president Ruto made a reshuffle to the cabinet. Therefore, the ministry of Tourism, wildlife and Heritage was reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife thereby being headed by Dr. Alfred.
