Anne Waiguru who is also known as H. E. Anne Mumbi Waiguru (EGH OGW) is the second governor of Kirinyaga county in Kenya. She was born on April 16, 1971. She was elected as Kirinyaga county governor on August 8, 2017. Waiguru is among the three elected female governors in Kenya. The other female governors are the late Joyce Laboso, of Bomet county, and Charity Ngilu of Kitui county.

Anne Waiguru was born on April 16, 1971, at Gichugu, Kirinyaga county. Waiguru’s father was a police officer while her mother was a businesswoman. She comes from a family of three siblings, one brother, and two sisters.

Anne Waiguru Career

After graduating from Egerton University bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Anne Waiguru worked at Transparency International as an intern and as a research assistant.

Waiguru started public service by offering technical support to Public Service Reform Secretariat, then the cabinet office. Later, she joined the Economic Stimulus Programme at the National Treasury and served as the Head of Governance.

Anne served as the director of Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS), and also the Head of Governance at the National Treasury. She also served as a senior public sector manager/assistant vice president, at Citi-group for a short period.

Her exemplary service at IFMIS got her an award of Order Grand Warrior (OGW) from the former president, Mwai Kibaki.

In 2013, president Uhuru Kenyatta appoint Anne Waiguru as the Devolution cabinet secretary. During her term, she launched Huduma centers across the country.

Following corruption allegations, she resigned from the ministry and later joined politics.

Waiguru in politics

In preparation for the 2017 general elections, Waiguru registered as a TNA member in August 2016. She later declared her interest in Kirinyaga county gubernatorial seat. She contested the seat and won.

Anne Waiguru Waiguru has three sons Don, Ian, and Wabu.  She was married to Tonny Waiguru Njuguna but they broke up following infidelity issues.

She has since remarried a city lawyer, Kamotho Waiganjo in a traditional wedding at Kamugumo Primary School in Ngariama Ward, on Saturday 13th, July 2019.
