Kenya is set to begin a mass voter registration from Monday, October 4, 2021. The exercise aims at capturing new voters and facilitating voter transfer from one voting center or constituency. The election system in Kenya displays democracy. It also allows Kenyans to elect leaders of their choice The leadership positions ranging from the president and the deputy president, senator, women representative, Member of the National Assembly (MP), Governor, and member of the county assembly (MCA).

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), is a legally mandated commission to manage all elections affairs in Kenya. To take part in voting you must register as a voter thus IEBC is set to begin a mass voter registration from Monday, October 4, 2021. The exercise aims at capturing new voters and facilitating voter transfer from one voting center or constituency.

Who can register to vote during the mass voter registration?

IEBC registers voters during the mass voter registration.

Legal eligibility criteria of a voter in Kenya according to IEBC:

Be an adult of sound mind.

Have a Kenyan passport or Identification card (ID).

Not convicted of an electoral offense.

Why register as a voter?

It is your civic and national duty to participate in an election of your preferred leader(s) thus your vote is your voice.

How do you register as a voter?

For you to register as a voter follow IEBC guidelines:

Present yourself at the IEBC designated voter registration center for biometric details capture.

Posses and presents the necessary identification documents.

Fill out a voter registration application form (Form A).

Proof you have been registered as a voter.

Upon registration the IEBC voter registration clerk will issue you with a registration acknowledgment slip containing your voter registration details. The slip is not mandatory.

Are there penalties for double voter registration?

As voters register once in the voting center. Double voter registration in Kenya is an offense punishable by a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings or a prison term not exceeding one year hence you will be ineligible in the current or subsequent electoral process.

Can a person transfer as a voter to a different voting center or constituency?

A transfer is possible within the registration period to your preferred voting center. To effect a transfer you need to follow the registration process.
