Amboseli National Park is in the southern part of Kenya, in Loitoktok which is in Kajiado county. Amboseli is a Maasai name that means dust that is so salty. It is a known and popular park. Kenya Wildlife Services manages the park. It is very famous because it is known as the home of elephants. In addition, one can see Mount Kilimanjaro very clearly from the park.

Different ecosystems surround this park. They include the dry parts where Lake Amboseli is. Also, there is a wet area known as the wetlands. Hot springs that contain Sulphur are found here. Interestingly, people believe that hot springs cure people’s illnesses. In addition, there is Savannah which is dry. This is where most wild animals are found example the Cheetahs and Lions. Also, there is the woodland area that is mostly comprised of trees such as Acacia.

If one wants to get the best views of elephants, Amboseli park is the right place to be. The park is open throughout the year. It is open every day from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. However, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) doesn’t allow tourists to visit the park on foot. Moreover, there lives a Maasai community around the park Therefore, people who enjoy nature and culture enjoy this great experience.

Entry fees to the park.

The park has different entry fees for residents and nonresidents. For citizens and residents, the adult charge is Ksh 860 while for children is Ksh 215. However, for nonresidents, the charge is 60 Us dollars for adults while for children is 35 Usd.  Tourists pay through Mpesa, Visa card, or deposits made to the KWS accounts. Please note that the park does not accept cash payments.
