Lou schooled at Fairmount senior school but she did not complete to graduation. She competed in Olympics in the second year of school and gained a lot of popularity in the US. She begun her gymnastics career at four years where she took ballet, tap, jazz and acrobatics. Additionally, she played a big role in changing the view of ballet from sports to athleticism. During one of her major trainings, she had tore cartilage of her knee which required a surgery.
