Reuben Kigame is a household gospel and country musician name among Kenyans. He was born on March 13, 1966, in Bunyore, Vihiga County. At age 3 years, he lost his sight while having dinner together with his family. He has a rich biography and has announced to vie for the presidency in the 2022 general elections.

Reuben Kigame was born on March 13, 1966, in Bunyore, Vihiga County. His parents Susan and Richard Lichete brought him up in a humble background. The mother engaged in pottery and subsistence farming while his father was a long-distance bus driver. His father had little regard for Christianity and was rarely seen at home. Reuben grew up together with his three sisters and three brothers.
At the age of three years, he lost his sight while having dinner. In this regard he is quoted saying “I remember one evening after mum blessed our dinner at home, I reached out for the plate and missed it. This shocked me, especially my mother, brothers, and sisters present. We were all to discover shortly after that I was going blind.” The cause of his blindness would later be discovered as cataracts but too late to treat.
Despite the visual disability, he pursued his education up to the university level.
Kigame’s education
He began his education at Kibos School for the Blind, Kisumu. He later proceeded to the Salvation army High School for the Blind in Thika(1981 to 1986). He joined Kenyatta University (1987-1990) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Education majoring in history, Philosophy, and Religious Studies major.
Reuben has a master of science in Journalism and Media Studies from Moi University and a master of arts in Apologetics from the Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate at the Centre for World Christianity, Africa International University, and Nairobi.

Having trained as a teacher, he taught in Kenya but in 1994 resigned from teaching to start a gospel outreach program. He first worked with Kenya Youth For Christ before establishing Word of Truth Ministries; an organization that engages in friendly dialogue with critics and opponents of Christianity.

His talent and speaking eloquence earned him invitations to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in regard to religious matters. In 2001, he briefly worked for Radio Citizen before joining Family radio. He has also worked for Bibilia Husema and volunteered at Kameme FM.

Reuben is a talented songwriter, musician, and music producer. His passion for music started at a tender age of seven years. He plays guitar and other musical instruments.
He mostly sings in Kiswahili but has also some country songs. His music is a hit in Kenya and beyond. Enda nasi (go with us) is one of his Kiswahili greatest hits. The song has been played in national events by various bands. In-country music, sweet bunyore is a hit.

He met the love of his life, Mercy Wanderwa Mwangi at the University. They got married in May 1991 but Mercy passed away in a tragic road accident on September 5, 2006. Therefore, he remarried Julie Alividza, a member of sifa voices since 1996. They have four children; three daughters and a son.
