John Barrowman whose real name John Scot Barrowman, is a Scottish-American actor, singer, presenter and author. He is widely known for his audio show on CBBC’s Tonight the Night and for his role as Captain Jack Harkness in Dr. Who and Torchwood in The Making of Wisdom.

His career began in London’s West End in 1989 when he played the role of Billy Crocker in Cole Porter’s Everything Goes at the Prince Edward Theatre. John took as Reno Sweeney and Bernard Cribbins in the role of Moonface Martin. He continued to appear in West End products over the next decade. He played the lead role of Domingo Hernandez in Matador at the Queen’s Theater in 1991. Also, he played as:

  • Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theater in 1992.
  • Claude in Hair at the Old Vic Theater in 1993.
  • Chris in Miss Saigon at the Theater Royal.
  • Drury Lane in 1993.
  • Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard at the Adelphi Theater from 1994 to 1995.
  • Beast in Beauty and the Beast at the Dominion Theater in 1999.

Moreover, he appeared in the 1994 musical Godspell and was a soloist on two songs:

  • “We Beseech Thee” and “On The Willows.”

In his review of Putting It Together, theater critic Tom Samiljan noted his “magnificent baritone voice and sophisticated aesthetic. “In 2002, he appeared as Bobby in Sondheim’s Company at the Stephen Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center.
