She had a success in her own prime time sitcom self titled television series known as Ellen. She openly acknowledged her homosexuality in 1997 and the show faced strong criticism. However, Ellen was cancelled in 1998 the following season because of the declining rate. In 2001,The Ellen Show was launched but cancelled due to poor rating. In 2003, The Ellen DeGeneres Show was a commercial successs with good rating with many awards.
