What are the different personality traits, types, and characteristics? Personality traits reflect people’s characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Therefore, personal development is the process of enhancing one’s personality.
Broadly, five parameters describe an individual personality. Moreover, these five dimensions have the name which is, “Big five” factors. The five-factor model was initially a proposal by Costa McCrea in the year 1992.
Types of personality traits.
Openness to experience- this is one of the domains which describe a human personality in the five factors model. However, it is one of the five core personality dimensions that drive behavior. Openness involves six factors which are:
- Active imagination.
- Aesthetic sensitivity.
- Attentiveness to inner feeling.
- Preference for variety.
- Intellectual curiosity.
- Challenging authority.
- People with low levels of openness prefer familiar routines, people, and ideas. In addition, they are close-minded.
- Happiness limit.
- Openness to experience, like the other four factors of personality, is usually measured using self-report inventories.
Extraversion and Introversion- introversion personality types have character traits such as reserve, passivity, thoughtfulness, and preference. However, extraversion is an attitude type characterized by traits such as social, assertiveness, and cheerfulness. Moreover, extroverts seek out novelty and excitement. They enjoy being the center of attention.
conscientiousness- this is the personality trait of being careful. This implies a desire to do a task well and to take obligations to others seriously. In addition, conscientious people tend to be efficient and organized as opposed to easy-going.
Neuroticism- is accompanied by sadness, moodiness, and emotional instability. Individuals who are high in neuroticism tend to experience mood swings, anxiety, irritability, and sadness. However, those with low traits tend to be more stable and emotionally resilient.
Agreeableness- is a personality trait manifesting itself in individual behavioral characteristics that are as kind as, sympathetic, warm, and considerate. A person with a high level of agreeable resin a personality test is usually warm, friendly, and tactful. However, they generally have an optimistic view of human nature. Therefore, someone with low agreeableness may put their own interests above others. They tend to be distant, unfriendly, and uncooperative.
