There are great tourist attraction sites in Taita Taveta. However, this county lies approximately 140 km northwest of Mombasa. The county office is located in Mwatate, which is central to the county. Below are tourist attraction sites in the county.

Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.

This is a private wildlife sanctuary in Kenya. It is located in Taita Taveta county approximately 200 kilometers from Mombasa. However, the landscape of the park is beautiful and it’s mainly savannah with some bushy areas surrounding waterholes. The fauna is exceptional. It was established in 1972 by Hilton International. Also, the sanctuary has two lodges, the Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge and the Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge.

Taita Hills Tourist Attraction in Taita.

This is a mountain range, located in Taita Taveta County. The hills consist of three massifs: Dawida, Sogalla, and Kasiguu. The Dawida massif is the largest and tallest of the three, with an attitude of 2,228/meters above sea level. However, the Dabida has its highest peak vuria. Dadida has other main peak: Lyale, wesu and susu.

Tsavo West National Park.

It offers some of the most beautiful game viewing in the world. However, the tourist attractions include elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions. The Tsavo has a rugged, arid landscape in contrast with the flat plains of Tsavo east. In addition, several rocky outcrops and volcanic hills mark the location of Tsavo west. It is located in the coastal province of Kenya. The park covers an area of 9,065 square kilometers. Moreover, people know it for its Red elephants and the legend of the maneaters of Tsavo.

Tsavo East National Park.

Tsavo East National Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya at 13,747 square kilometers. It is located in South East of Kenya near the Town of Voi. However, it is situated in a semi-arid area previously known as the Taru Desert. However, the two key Rivers which are the Tsavo River and Athi River, drain into the Tsavo national park. The Park is considered as one of the biodiversity strongholds not only in Kenya but the entire world. In addition, the park is managed by Kenya Wildlife Service.

Lake Chala Tourist Attraction in taita Taveta.

Lake Chala is also known as Lake Challa. It is a crater lake that saddled the border between Kenya and Tanzania. The lake is east of mount Kilimanjaro, 8kilomtres from the north of Taveta county.

Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary.

This is a community-owned wildlife sanctuary in Kenya. It is located near Mwatete in Taita Taveta county. It was formed from three community-owned ranches in 1996. However, it got opened to the public in 2003.

Lake Jipe.

Lake Jipe is an inter-territorial lake straddling the borders of Kenya and Tanzania. On the Kenyan side, it is located in the south of the village of Nghonji. However, on the Tanzania side, it is located within the Mwanga district, in Kilimanjaro.

Mzima Springs.

Mzima Springs are a series of four natural springs in Tsavo National Park. They are located in the west of the park. However, Mzima spring is an oasis of green that produces an incredible 259 million liters of freshwater a day. The springs, whose source rises in the Chyulu Hills, provide the bulk of Mombasa’s freshwater.
