Oburu Odinga was born on 15 October 1943. He is the son of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mary Juma. Therefore, Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate in the August 2022 Kenyan elections, and Oburu Odinga are siblings.
He was a finance minister in the year 2008.
Education
Oburu was at Maranda School in Siaya County. After completing secondary school, he joined the Kenya Institute of Administration. Here, he took Public Administration specializing in Finance. Afterward, he did a master’s in economics in the year 1963 up to the year 1967. He got his Ph.D. degree in Economics in 1970 after enrolling for it in 1967.

This man was at first a Finance Director of Lohre Transports in the year 1974. During that time he was a Senior Administrative assistant, Kisumu, the General Manager Lutatco, and Councillor, Kisumu Municipality.
Also, he took the role of an Economist in 1981 at the Kenyan Ministry of Planning and National Development Kenya. He was a member of the National Development Party(NDP) from the year 1995-2002. He then left the party to join National Rainbow Coalition.
Political Career.
He was also a Member of Parliament of Bondo Constituency from the year 1994-2013. In 2008, he was elected as the Assistant Minister for Finance till March 2013. He served as Bond Member of Parliament while still the Assistant Minister.

He was later appointed as a Member of the National Assembly from 2013- July 2017.
Currently, he is a coalition member of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy in Kenya. He is also a member of the political Party, Orange Democratic Movement.
He showed interest in the Senatorial seat in Siaya County in the year 2022 Kenya General elections and won. Therefore, he currently serves the residents of Siaya County as the senator.
