What is black history month, Its start, importance?

Black History Month is also known as African American History Month. So, this month is observed annually in the United States, Canada, and other countries that celebrate and recognizes the contribution, and achievements of black people in history.

So, its origin can be traced back to the 1920s, when Carter G. Woodson, an African American historian started to promote the idea of a “Negro History Week” to highlight the contributions of black people to American society. Then, in 1976, President Gerald Ford expanded the week-long celebration to a month-long observance. Therefore, he recognized the need to honor the achievements and contributions of black people throughout history.

The month is celebrated through various events, educational programs, and cultural activities that highlight the significant contributions of black people in different fields, including science, technology, literature, music, politics, and more. They also provide an opportunity to reflect on the struggles and challenges faced by black people in the past and present, and to promote equality, justice, and social progress for all people.

When is black history month celebrated?

So, it is observed in the month of February in the United States, and Canada. However, the United Kingdom observes the day in the month of October.
