Moses Kuria

Hon. Moses Kuria Kiarie is a well-known politician. He is familiar to many Kenyans especially during elections because of his vocal nature. He is from Gatundu South Constituency and served as a Parliament Member in the same place.

Education of Moses Kuria

Hon. Moses started schooling at Githuya Primary School in Gatundu to the completion of his primary education in 1983. For his secondary education, he joined Ituru Secondary School and where he sat for his final exams in 1987.  Later, he was admitted to the University of Nairobi pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce. He graduated from the university in the year 1993.

However, he managed to get a position as the treasurer of the Students Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU). This was while he was still a student. Therefore, it worked well as he got the courage to join politics. Moreover, Moses is said to have received some financial support to fund his education from Hon. Raila Odinga. The information was revealed by Railas’ Elder brother Oburu Odinga.

So, Kurias’ wife is known as Joyce Njambi whom they met in Saudi Arabia. Together they are blessed with two sons aged 12 and 9 years. He is a son of business parents and is the fifth born in a family of nine.

Kuria established an audit firm in 1994. This enabled him to get a job as an auditor at Standard Chartered Bank in 1995. He was the head of business process re-engineering Africa. While at Standard Chartered Bank he went through many challenges in his career. The greatest was in 1997 when he pioneered the banks’ hub process.

However, in 1999 he lost the job as the bank’s head of operation which was taken by Jeremy. In 1999, he left the country for a job at Al Rajhi Bank which is in Saudi Arabia. There, he became the manager of business process re-engineering. This opportunity was availed to him by his previous boss Chris Wingfield. He later went to Dubai at Wamad Information Services where he became the chief operating officer. In  2007, he left employment in the corporate world to join politics.

Political career

In the year 2007,  he became a member of the Party of National Unity (PNU) as the director of programs and spokesperson. He became the officer in charge of strategy in 2013 with the party of The National Alliance (TNA).  He held this position until 2014 when he became Gatundu South MP during a by-election. This was due to the death of Hon Jossy Ngugi. Unlike other by-elections, Kuria was not elected. He was appointed by the IEBC because no other potential contestants availed themselves. he held this position up to 2022 when he showed no interest in the seat during the general elections.

Appointment as CS

On 27th September, Kuria was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) of trade by President Hon. william Samoei Ruto.

Cabinet Reshuffle

On 4th October 2023, President Ruto made a cabinet reshuffle. Therefore, the ministry of Public Service, Gender and Affirmative was reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management headed by CS Moses.
